Giving back to the community is always so important for athletes and coaches. That becomes even more essential at this time of the year around the holidays. There are children and people less fortunate who don’t have a Christmas tree with an abundance of presents waiting for them. Toy drives are always the perfect way to help give back.

Former New York Rangers great Jeff Beukeboom knows how pivotal it is. He played in the NHL from 1985-1999, and is now the assistant coach for the Rangers. Beukeboom was the man of the hour at the 3PT Sports Management Toy Drive Monday in Manhattan.

“It’s important to be a part of the community to see what all these different people do for the kids, for the different communities,” said Beukeboom. “To be a part of the fabric of New York City is really important to the Rangers and to myself.

“It’s about giving back to the community and being a part of things and trying to make a difference. It might be in a real small way, but it’s important.”

Monday started at Bryant Park where a Grayline CitySightseeing New York bus packed many NYPD Explorers Program kids. The first stop was Modell’s Sporting Goods, where they were each given a $50 gift card to get whatever they want from the store. Beukeboom also gave out Wilson footballs to the kids. Kids were also given autographed Phill Lewis photos. Lewis starred as Mr. Moseby in the hit Disney show, “The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.”

The bus would then go to the NYPD Midtown South Precinct, where Beukeboom would hand out tickets to the NYPD officers for various Nets, Islanders, Devils, and 76ers games.

New York City police officer Tyron Saxon has gone from chasing the bad guys to helping inner city kids as he did Monday.

“It makes me feel good to take kids on a journey and have fun,” said Saxon. “I always look forward to it. At the end of the day, it’s about giving back to the community and making sure the kids enjoy themselves and have fun, especially during this season.”
