Army defeated Navy on Saturday 14-13 in a hard fought battle to finish their season at an incredible 9-3 record. With the victory, they will now take on San Diego State in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 23 at 3:30pm ET on ESPN.
It hasn’t always been smooth sailing tho for head coach Jeff Monken since he got here four years ago. Army had a 4-8 season and then a 2-10 season before finishing 8-5 last year. It’s been quite the turnaround for this program.
“There’s a sense of confidence in our program now that wasn’t here when I arrived four years ago,” Monken said on The D.A. Show. “Our players have done that. They have worked extremely hard and committed to this program and to each other. They desperately wanted to be a championship program…to be a program that competed on the national level and play in the postseason, and enjoy all the great things about college football that so many other schools have the opportunity to do. They wanted to win.
“They wanted to represent our academy and the United States Army in a way that everyone can be proud. Our guys, they take tremendous pride in representing West Point and the United States Army. We got a great group of kids that have just worked with every amount of effort that they have got to be the best they can be. I’m just so happy to see it paying off for them.”
