It’s been a wild ride for the Los Angeles Chargers this season in their debut season in LA. They started the season 0-4 and losing close games. Since then they are 7-2 and cruising. It’s been an incredible turnaround that has them right in the thick of things in the AFC West. What has been the reason for the turnaround?
“They have learned how to play together,” said NBCLA Chargers and Rams reporter Nick Hamilton on After Hours With Amy Lawrence. “I think the system they were in, they were still trying to figure things out. They were looking for an identity offensively as well as defensively. I think after that Giants win, they really started to get the monkey off their back, got their first win of the season, and started to believe they can start winning games again. They never quit. Even though they were 0-4, if you look at the margin they lost games, it was only two to three points. The Chargers knew they can win. They played with a lot of confidence. Being in that locker room, this is a very united group. They feel like it’s a me against the world mentality.”
Saturday night could end up determining whether they make the playoffs or not. They head to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs with the winner potentially winning the AFC West.
“They know what they are up against. The Chargers know what is at stake,” said Hamilton. “This is the game of all games for them. This determines their playoff hopes, their division lead, and them winning the division. They know everything is on the line, it’s going to be 30-40 degrees, and they have played the Chiefs before. They are very familiar with this Chiefs team. This is a very different Chargers team and this is a very different Chiefs team. The last time these two teams played, the Chiefs were really on fire. The Chiefs have been brought back down to earth. It’s going to be a bloodbath between these two teams.
