After the Packers traded up to select Jordan Love in the first round of the NFL Draft, Aaron Rodgers, many analysts assumed, was close to toast in Green Bay. If Packers brass had that same thought, well, they may want to reconsider.
Rodgers has completed 67.0 percent of his passes for 887 yards, nine touchdowns and zero interceptions, leading the Packers to a 3-0 start.
Translation: Take a seat, rook, and get comfortable.
“Aaron Rodgers, if you had any doubts about where he is at 36 years old, forget about them. You’re wrong,” JR SportBrief said on CBS Sports Radio. “There are no issues. There are no problems. Aaron Rodgers is still one of the best in the league. He may not be a 25-year-old Patrick Mahomes. He may not be a video game in a Lamar Jackson. But what Aaron Rodgers does – and what Aaron Rodgers continues to do right now – is win.”
Rodgers, playing without Davante Adams in Weeks 3, out-dueled Drew Brees in New Orleans on Sunday Night Football. He finished 21-of-32 for 283 yards and three touchdowns in the 37-30 win, with Allen Lazard (6/146/1) serving as his top target.
The Packers, one of three 3-0 teams in the NFC, could be well on their way to another playoff bye.
“We still might be on borrowed time with Aaron Rodgers,” JR said. “He still might only be a Green Bay Packer for another year, another two years, and that’s it. He may not even get to 40 and be in a Packers uniform. But at this rate and how he’s playing, if he can keep this up, if the Packers can continue playing like this, Aaron Rodgers may not finish his career with the Green Bay Packers, but Aaron Rodgers most certainly looks like he just might pick up another Super Bowl on his way out the door.”
