There's nothing quite like a hockey game in Las Vegas, Jeremy Roenick says

The Vegas Golden Knights were the best story in hockey last season, going from expansion team to Stanley Cup Finalist.

Some analysts, however, aren’t expecting a repeat of that historic run. In fact, they aren’t expecting anything close.

“I’ve heard a lot of people say they don’t even think they’ll make the playoffs,” NHL on NBC analyst Jeremy Roenick said on Taz & The Moose, “that it was just a fluke, that they were running on so much adrenaline with what happened one year ago yesterday with the shooting. They bonded with a city in crisis and it was the first year, they were all together, they were all just thrown out of their respective cities and joined a team together that just went on a tear.”

Roenick doesn’t quite buy that theory, but he does think challenges await the Golden Knights, who open the season at home against Philadelphia on Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. ET.

“I think this year it’s going to be real interesting to see if they can keep that excitement,” Roenick said. “If that excitement is still there, the way that they play is so hard. They play harder and faster than any team in the league, I think, game in and game out. It’s a hard thing to do and a hard thing to keep that momentum. It’s going to be a really difficult season for them, I think, being in that second year.”

Luckily for the Golden Knights, they have one of the best home-ice advantages in the league.

“The adrenaline and the excitement – it’s like one big night club,” Roenick said. “I find myself dancing and singing pretty much half the game. I’m not kidding. It is a fun atmosphere. The people there love it. They’re sold out every single game. Even during intermissions, people are having a good time, they’re listening to the music, the clubs that they have in that arena are amazing – they do a great job.

“Sports is entertainment,” Roenick continued. “People want to go to a (game) and forget about their life for a little while and forget about their job. The Vegas Golden Knights make you forget about your life for a little while. It’s good.”
