Paylor: Chiefs, With “F-You Swagger,” Will Win Super Bowl Again

The Kansas City Chiefs begin their Super Bowl title defense against the Houston Texans on Thursday night, and Terez Paylor is expecting another elite campaign from Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.

“I think we’re looking at another 12-4 season,” the Yahoo Sports senior NFL reporter said on Reiter Than You. “The Chiefs are one of the most competent organizations in football, and they brought everybody back from a championship team. When a team wins a championship, they kind of get that F-you swagger, and I think that can carry you a little bit as long as they don’t get lax. I’m really confident the Chiefs are not going to do that because Mahomes won’t let them. He’s a really competitive guy, and it’s not hard for him to find logs to put on his motivational fire. I think they’re going to put up a lot of points.”

Paylor is particularly excited to see what first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire can do in Reid’s offense – and in Mahomes’ backfield.

“Clyde Edwards-Helaire is special,” Paylor said. “ He’s un-coverable on angle routes and option routes out of the backfield, and he almost always makes the first guy miss. I expect this offense, with him kind of filling the Kareem Hunt role, to get back to where it was in 2018 when they looked like the second coming of the Greatest Show on Turf, which has to be a terrifying realization for the rest of the league.”

The defense, meanwhile, is “underrated,” Paylor said, and will be even better in 2020. Add it all up, and the Chiefs could be the first team to win back-to-back Lombardi Trophies since the New England Patriots in 2003-04.

“Kansas City is going to be a really tough out in the playoffs,” Paylor said. “I do have them winning the Super Bowl again because I think they’re special.”
